Creating a visual identity for Utrecht University's International Office
Visual identity, illustration, animation design and editorial design promoting Utrecht University’s International Office & exchange program.
The goal was to create a recognizable style within the boundaries of the corporate identity of Utrecht University and to develop information guides for students preparing for an exchange program.
After creating the visual identity I was asked to design various information and promotion materials for the International Office of Utrecht University. These designs have been created and further developed over the past 6 years to help promote the exchange programs, for example at open information days.
Applying the visual identity design
For the Admissions department I helped to develop several design projects with the aim to help inform exchange students coming to Utrecht University about the university and city life, but also more specifically developing better ways to communicate the application procedure.
Together with Thijs van Himbergen I expanded the illustrative style and developed a series of new illustrations to visualize different parts of the application procedure. I then incorporated these illustrations in various designs. We were also asked to develop animations in the style of the International Office to the help communicate the different steps of application.
Application process - animations
With Thijs van Himbergen
The two animations we developed aimed to elucidate the complicated registration process that aspiring international students face. This project allowed us to combine a number of our favorite things to do: coming up with a concept that is both humorous and informative, writing the scripts, drawing the storyboard and animation elements, and maintaining clear lines of communication between ourselves and the sound designer and animator, and ultimately feeding everything back to the client.
